The mission of Freedom Four Eighteen is to bring glory to God by making disciples through the power and truth found in God's word. True Freedom from the bondage of one and life-controlling issues can only be experienced through a relationship with God and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit.
recovering what was lost
What about
the name?
FREEDOM FOUR EIGHTEEN IS BASED ON THE FREEDOM JESUS DESCRIBES IN LUKE 4:18. “THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS ON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PROCLAIM GOOD NEWS TO THE POOR. HE HAS SENT ME TO PROCLAIM FREEDOM FOR THE PRISONERS AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT FOR THE BLIND, TO SET THE OPPRESSED FREE.” FOUR EIGHTEEN CONSTANTLY REMINDS US OF THE TRUTH THAT JESUS CAME TO SET US FREE AND OUR STRENGTH COMES FROM HIM.
ABOUT OUR GATHERINGS
The first hour includes praise and worship and a biblically based lesson or testimony. The second hour includes small groups that address specific issues and struggles. The groups will address many life controlling issues and sufferings that result from sin such as anger, abuse, unforgiveness, abortion, as well as addictions to such things as alcohol, drugs, pornography, and sex. It is the purpose of recovery groups to connect relationally, understand problems biblically, and apply the gospel specifically, while walking in wisdom and accountability on the way to a recovery that is truly redemptive.
fIVE DISTINCTIVES
1. PROGRAMS DON'T HEAL PEOPLE
Sin and bondage are a result of worshiping the creation rather than the Creator. When you give yourself to a program, you enslave yourself to a program. Only Jesus Christ can deliver us from bondage and reconcile us to God.
2. RECOVERY GROUPS AREN'T JUST FOR ADDICTS
Freedom Four Eighteen is open to anyone seeking help in overcoming the enslaving effect of sin and suffering.
3. SOBRIETY IS A BYPRODUCT
Sobriety is not the goal of, but a byproduct of reconciliation with God. Reconciliation is our goal. The things of God will displace the things of this world that hold us in bondage as our relationship grows.
4. IT'S NOT ABOUT A SINGLE ISSUE
It is dangerous to reduce our walk with the Lord to one issue. If we haven’t sinned in a particular way, we then believe that we are “OK” with God. Abstinence is not the way to God or Freedom. Jesus is!
5. IT'S A MINISTRY OF MOVEMENT
Our hope is not that you would spend the rest of your life in Recovery Groups. We want each person to experience the healing and freedom that comes from knowing Christ, so they can live their life for the Kingdom of God.
